🇯🇵🇮🇷 Japan to Receive First Post-Hormuz LNG Shipment

Japan is set to receive its first LNG cargo routed through the Strait of Hormuz since the waterway's de facto closure, with the shipment described by Nikkei Asia as offering psychological relief rather than material market impact. The volume involved is too small to shift overall supply balances. Power provider JERA operates major LNG receiving facilities at Futtsu in Chiba prefecture.

The Hormuz closure has forced Asian LNG importers to seek alternative routing and spot supply, raising procurement costs and compressing delivery flexibility. Japan, which holds no domestic gas production of scale, is structurally exposed to any sustained disruption of Gulf export corridors — which account for a significant share of its LNG intake.

The resumption of even limited Hormuz transits signals a partial easing of passage risk, though the underlying conditions driving the closure remain unresolved.
