📉 Russia's economy shrank by 0.3% in the first quarter of 2026, Belarus's by 0.4%. Both countries entered the year with optimistic growth forecasts, but the result turned out to be the opposite, — Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.

The key reason is the Central Bank of Russia's fight against inflation. The increase in the discount rate has sharply increased the cost of loans for business and industry, which has slowed down production.

Since Belarus is firmly tied to the Russian market, it is experiencing the crisis together with its neighbor - and without its own tools to exit it.

Stagflation instead of growth. The ambitious Belarusian five-year growth plan of 15% now looks like a fiction. Instead, the country is threatened by stagflation: the economy is falling, prices are rising.

The US president said he discussed Ukraine with Chinese leader Xi Jinping and that both wanted to see the issue resolved, but Russia’s latest mass attack pushed the situation back into a sharper crisis.

Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed a strike on Russia’s Ryazan oil refinery, where large fires broke out at one of the country’s biggest refining sites. The facility processes about 17 million tons of oil per year and produces fuel used by the Russian army.
