❗️In the Hulyaipole direction, Russian forces killed two Ukrainian soldiers, mutilated their bodies, and left them in plain sight at the edge of a field, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.

“On May 12, servicemen of the 225th Separate Assault Regiment were ambushed by an enemy infiltration group. Unfortunately, two of our soldiers were killed in the battle.

According to intercepted communications, the commander of a Russian unit gave a direct order to commit a crime against the bodies of the fallen Ukrainian soldiers. In particular, he ordered their mutilation ‘for confirmation’ and to leave the remains in a visible place. A subordinate expressed readiness to carry out the order.

By committing crimes against the bodies of fallen soldiers, the invaders have once again demonstrated deliberate cruelty and disregard for human dignity.

This is a gross violation of the laws and customs of war — a war crime that has no statute of limitations.

Those responsible will be held accountable. Retribution is inevitable for everyone involved in this atrocity,” the General Staff stated.

The unit responsible for these actions has already been identified. Its commander had previously issued orders to abuse Ukrainian prisoners of war.

Ukraine’s Ombudsman, Dmytro Lubinets, has appealed to the UN and the Red Cross.
