🇷🇺‼️ Russia Successfully Tests the Sarmat Intercontinental Ballistic Missile

🔹The Russian Ministry of Defense reported the successful flight test of the RS-28 Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile. The missile was launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in northwestern Russia, and its test warheads accurately struck designated targets on the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Far East.

📊 Technical Specifications of the RS-28 Sarmat Missile:
The RS-28 Sarmat (NATO reporting name: SS-X-30 Satan II) is a super-heavy, liquid-fueled ICBM developed by the Makeyev Design Bureau. This missile measures 35.5 meters in length and 3 meters in diameter. The Sarmat's launch weight is between 208 and 220 tons, with an estimated operational range of 18,000 kilometers. The maximum speed of the Sarmat is Mach 20.7 (approximately 25,500 km/h).

❗️Avangard; The Deadly Tip of the Sarmat's Spear:
The Sarmat is capable of carrying 10 to 15 independently targetable MIRV nuclear warheads, each with a destructive yield of between 0.5 and 1 megaton. However, the Sarmat's greatest strength lies in its ability to carry multiple Avangard hypersonic glide vehicles (HGVs).

📊 The Avangard HGV is estimated to reach speeds between Mach 20 and 27 and weigh around 2 tons. Unlike conventional warheads, the Avangard performs sharp maneuvers (S-turns) in the upper atmosphere, making its flight path unpredictable. As a result, practically no current air defense system is capable of tracking or intercepting it.

The Sarmat project has encountered significant ups and downs. According to Western intelligence reports, prior to this flight test, the Sarmat missile had failed three times in tests conducted in 2024 and 2025. However, the recent test (in May 2026) has validated all performance parameters and, according to military experts, has successfully completed combat readiness procedures.

➡️ Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, emphasized in a video statement that the Sarmat is capable of overcoming any existing or future missile defense systems, ending the West's dominance in the realm of nuclear deterrence. He also promised that the first regiment equipped with these missiles would be placed on combat duty by the end of 2026.

‼️The Sarmat missile can simultaneously engage multiple targets across different continents; with each launch, it has the potential to disable command networks, radar installations, and major cities.

✍️ From a military science perspective, the U.S. GMD system is designed to counter conventional parabolic trajectories, whereas the Avangard uses a "skip-glide" trajectory with abrupt altitude changes. Early warning radars stationed in Alaska and the UK have a maximum of 3 to 4 minutes to detect conventional missiles, but due to its gliding nature, the Avangard reduces reaction time to less than 1 minute. Following the successful test of this missile, it is likely that the U.S. and Russia's adversaries will be forced to upgrade their defense systems or develop new ones to counter this major threat.
