🇮🇷🇺🇸 Iran has deployed small submarines to act as an "invisible guardian" of the Strait of Hormuz amid rejected peace deals with the US, - Bloomberg

The submarines, known as Ghadir-class midget submarines, are noisy and have maintenance issues, and their crews have limited experience.

Iran's decision to deploy the submarines came as US President Donald Trump considered a plan to use the US military to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

🇱🇧🇱🇧/🇮🇱 Situation Report No. 36 from the Southern Lebanon Front

🔹Fighting continues on the southern Lebanese front, disregarding any ceasefire agreement. Simultaneously, the Israeli regime's army is attempting to seize control of new towns in southern Lebanon as part of efforts to advance toward the Litani River.

➡️ Here's the latest situation on the fronts:

🟡Al-Bayyada Front:
As the Israeli army pushes forward from southwestern Lebanon, it has re-entered the towns of Tayr Harfa and Shihin, demolishing parts of buildings in both areas. The Zionists have also started moving along the Wadi Hassan axis toward Majdal Zoun, and along the coastal road toward Bayut al-Sayyad.
Hezbollah is striking back from Majdal Zoun and Mansouri, and in recent days has inflicted significant damage on Zionist positions using FPV drones. Among the notable strikes: the destruction of an Iron Dome air defense platform at the Jal al-Alam base, and an attack on Zionist forces in Shlomi.

🟡 Rashaf–Bint Jbeil Front:
On this front, the Zionist forces are attempting to attack the towns of Hadatha and Sarbin from the town of Rashaf. On May 8, the Zionists launched an assault on Hadatha from the southern direction, but Hezbollah prevented their advance along this axis by striking their concentrations and military movements in the town of Rashaf. There is a possibility of intensified attacks on this front.

The fall of Hadatha would pave the way for the fall of several other towns along this axis, including Sarbin, Haris, Aita al-Jabal, Beit Yahoun, and others, potentially moving the fighting deeper into the southern regions of Lebanon. Such a development would effectively mean the end of operations on the Bint Jbeil front, making it more difficult for Hezbollah to return to these areas.

🟡 Aytaroun–Houla Front:
There has been no change on this axis. The Israeli army has booby‑trapped and demolished a number of remaining buildings in the towns of Meis al-Jabal, Aytaroun, and Blida.

❗️❗️Since 2020, Russian authorities have spent 50 billion rubles on the operation of two networks for preparing schoolchildren for war – "Avangard" and "Voin," according to Vot Tak.

In 2021, at the suggestion of then-Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Vladimir Putin ordered the opening of "Avangard" centers in all cities with a population of over 100,000.

As a result, by the fall of 2025, 147 such centers had opened, operating in 70 regions of the Russian Federation. There is no complete information on their funding, but 39 regions have allocated 36.5 billion rubles for the maintenance of these camps.

Federal funds have allocated 15 billion rubles for another network of centers – "Voin." It includes 21 branches, four of which operate in the occupied territories. By 2030, a "Voin" center is expected to be available in every region of the Russian Federation.

Eighth- and 10th-grade schoolchildren are sent to these centers for military training in the mandatory "Fundamentals of Homeland Security and Defense" (OBZR) course. There, the children wear military uniforms, march in formation, and learn to handle weapons and drones.

The total number of children who have completed these courses is unknown, but in the Volgograd region alone, 5,500 people from Ukrainian regions, the Volgograd region, and the Belgorod region have completed the Avangard training since 2024.

🟡Deir Siryan–Zawtar Front:
Since May 4th, the Israeli regime's army has been making efforts to cross the Litani River and attack the town of Zawtar via the Raj Valley (Wadi Raj). Hezbollah has responded with at least nine attacks against Zionist concentrations and armored vehicles using rockets, artillery, and several FPV drones. However, these measures have not been sufficient, and the Zionists are now transferring their military equipment north of the Litani River and launching ground attacks into Zawtar town. The situation on this front remains uncertain; no ground clashes have been reported on the southern outskirts of Zawtar as yet.

🟡Khiam Front:
There has been no change in the lines on this front, and the Zionist military continues to demolish the remaining buildings in the southern half of Al‑Khiam. A deadline was also issued on May 10th for the evacuation of the village of Ein Arab, east of Al‑Khiam, forcing residents to be displaced.

🟡Shebaa Front:
No change has occurred on this front.

✍️ Overall, the pattern of military movements and actions by the Zionist regime's army demonstrates their determination to fully occupy southern Lebanon. At the outset of the conflict, it was assumed their plan was limited to areas south of the Litani River, but their continuous attacks on the Raj Valley show that occupying areas north of the Litani River is also on their agenda. The creation of permanent bases inside Lebanese territory is part of this strategy; the Zionist regime's army has increased its previously occupied five points to 11.

🇺🇦 Ukraine's experience proves: modern war is won with the will and participation of the entire society, — Budanov

Budanov stated during his visit to Vilnius that the Ukrainian experience of resistance and the 🇱🇹Lithuanian model of "comprehensive defense" are based on a common principle — the aggressor must feel resistance on every meter of captured land.

As part of the trip, Budanov met with Lithuanian President Nausėda and Defense Minister. The parties discussed the situation on the front, security cooperation, joint production in the defense sector, and support for Ukraine's accession to the EU.

For the first time in almost three years, the initiative in the war appears to be shifting toward Ukraine, according to The Economist.

Over the past 30 days, Russia has lost control of 113 sq km of Ukrainian territory. After a difficult winter marked by sustained strikes on cities and energy infrastructure, Ukraine is now inflicting increasing losses on Russian forces across multiple indicators.

Russia’s expected spring offensive has failed to deliver results. In April, Russian troops recorded net territorial losses for the first time since August 2024, when Ukrainian forces entered the Kursk region.

According to analysis by the Institute for the Study of War, Ukraine’s gains have been supported by ground counterattacks, mid-range strikes, Russia’s limited access to Starlink, and restrictions on Telegram usage within Russia.

Lawrence Freedman, emeritus professor at King’s College London, described the current moment as potentially approaching a turning point. He noted that without tangible gains, Russian positions could begin to collapse in certain areas.

Russian losses remain high. In recent months, Russia has reportedly been losing around 35,000 troops per month. The ratio of killed to wounded is increasing, with about 80% of casualties attributed to FPV drones. According to Seth Jones from the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the widespread use of drones has significantly complicated medical evacuations.

Russian sources also acknowledge growing challenges. Alexey Chadayev, director of a drone development center, said Russia has “lost its lead” in drone warfare over the past six months and is facing logistical difficulties near the front. Up to 90% of UAV operator teams reportedly suffer losses in the final kilometer before engagement.

Convoys have been reduced to no more than two vehicles to limit exposure to drone strikes. Both sides face similar risks, but Ukraine is increasingly using ground robotic systems to reduce personnel losses.

Freedman noted that the effective “kill zone” now extends up to 20 km on both sides of the line of battle. Beyond the front, Russia is sustaining growing losses from Ukrainian medium-range drone strikes (50–300 km), targeting depots, command points, launchers, radars, and troop concentrations.

The scale and reach of Ukrainian strikes deep inside Russia are also increasing. In March, Ukraine reportedly surpassed Russia in the number of long-range attacks. According to Jones, these operations are causing both economic damage — particularly to oil exports — and psychological pressure on the population.

Analysts say the key question is whether these setbacks indicate a weakening of Vladimir Putin’s ability to sustain the war. Much will depend on the coming months, including whether Russia can adapt to Ukraine’s advances in drone warfare or mount a new large-scale offensive.

For now, experts describe the outlook for Russia as increasingly difficult.
❗️Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiiha said Ukraine is holding talks with Russia on an “airport ceasefire,” raising the possibility that Ukrainian airports may resume operations soon. Details of the proposed arrangement have not been specified.
