🇵🇾🇹🇼 Paraguay President Reaffirms Taiwan Alliance in Taipei

Paraguayan President Santiago Peña met Taiwan President Lai Ching-te in Taipei on May 8, his second visit to the island as head of state. Peña reaffirmed Paraguay's commitment to the bilateral relationship, framing it as a strategic alliance grounded in shared democratic values. The visit came one day after Beijing publicly called on Asunción to sever ties with Taipei.

Paraguay is one of only 12 countries maintaining formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan and remains its sole ally in South America — and the largest by land area. China has been actively pressuring Asunción to switch recognition, part of a broader campaign to erode Taiwan's shrinking diplomatic network. The visit signals Paraguayan resistance to that pressure, at least for now.

Paraguay's alignment with the US — Peña visited Washington in February — adds a broader strategic dimension to its continued recognition of Taiwan.

13 airports in southern Russia have been suspended due to equipment damage in Rostov-on-Don.

"Это неверная информация, это ложная информация, так мы можем констатировать", - сказал Песков.

Пресс-секретарь президента пояснил, что "очень много заявок от иностранных СМИ на присутствие на параде, но в этом году вся церемония несколько ограничена, и поэтому был ограничен и состав журналистов".
