🇺🇸🇨🇳 Trump Scales Back CEO Delegation for Beijing Visit
The White House has invited roughly a dozen executives to accompany Trump to Beijing on May 14–15, down sharply from the 29-member business delegation that joined his 2017 China visit. Invitations — sent unusually late due to internal disagreements — reportedly went to CEOs from Nvidia, Apple, Qualcomm, Citigroup, and Boeing. The group is expected to attend a state dinner hosted by Xi Jinping.
The reduced size reflects divisions within the administration over trade strategy. USTR Jamieson Greer had previously pushed to limit CEO involvement to keep focus on managed trade rather than broad commercial signaling. The contrast with recent Western visits is stark — UK PM Starmer brought 60 executives in January, German Chancellor Merz 29 in February.
The scaled-back delegation signals limited expectations for the summit and a deliberate effort to avoid over-committing on economic deliverables.

Ukrainian drones struck the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in Yaroslavl, one of Russia’s largest refineries, triggering a major fire. The overnight attack reportedly damaged a critical vacuum distillation unit at the site, which processes about 15 million tons of crude a year and produces gasoline, diesel and jet fuel. Zelensky published footage from the burning refinery and said the facility played a major role in financing Russia’s war.
