The Union of Journalists of Russia has been permanently expelled from the International Federation of Journalists.

The decision was made at the 32nd Congress of the organization, held in Paris from May 4 to 7, 2026.

The key reason for the expulsion was the creation of branches of the Russian journalists’ union in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine — in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions — which was deemed a serious violation of international law and the IFJ statute.

The decision marked the culmination of a long-standing effort by Ukrainian media professionals to counter Russian propaganda.

Representatives of the Russian union did not attend the Congress and did not file an appeal or present their position.

🇪🇺 FT: EU leaders are preparing for “potential” talks with Putin as frustration grows over stalled US-led Ukraine negotiations.

European Council president António Costa said the bloc has Kyiv’s backing to be “prepared to contribute positively for negotiation.”

Zelensky confirmed discussions with the EU but stressed any outreach must show “a united European voice” and maintain pressure on Russia.
