🇭🇰 Hong Kong Eyes Commodities Hub Role With Yuan Push
Hong Kong is moving to establish a specialised mediation panel for international commodities disputes, covering the full supply chain from mining to delivery, to be developed with the International Organisation for Mediation. Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po also signalled expansion of yuan-denominated commodities products, citing clear room for growth alongside physical gold storage capabilities.
The push positions Hong Kong as a neutral arbitration and trading node at a time when global commodity flows are being restructured by sanctions, supply chain fragmentation, and shifting dollar dependency. Yuan settlement infrastructure in commodities markets is a direct complement to Beijing's broader de-dollarisation strategy, and Hong Kong remains the primary offshore renminbi clearing centre.
If formalised, the mediation panel would give Hong Kong a structural role in commodity trade dispute resolution — a function currently dominated by Western arbitration venues.

❗️An oil depot near Perm, which had been burning for more than a week, intensified after a new UAV strike.
The facility in question is the Perm linear production and dispatching station, owned by Transneft.
The first strike on the site took place on the night of April 29, 2026. Since then, the tanks have been burning continuously, with smoke stretching for many kilometers and visible across Perm.
On the night of May 7, Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck the station again.
Satellite images from May 7, obtained by NV, confirm a new large-scale fire. The smoke plume extended about 15 kilometers from the tanks, this time drifting south of Perm rather than over the city.
Explosions were also reported near the Perm oil refinery, but available images do not show a fire or significant damage from that strike.

«Все понимают, в том числе, я бы сказал, и украинские переговорщики, что сейчас Киеву нужно сделать лишь один серьезный шаг, после чего, во-первых, приостановятся военные действия, а во-вторых, откроется перспектива для серьезного обсуждения перспектив дальнейшего долгосрочного урегулирования этой проблемы. Все это понимают и поэтому сейчас, честно говоря, убеждать друг друга – это во многом трата времени, потому что сейчас ожидается этот Киева, в частности, от Зеленского этот шаг. Если его удастся сделать, то мы резко продвинемся в урегулировании этой ситуации», - подчеркнул представитель Кремля.
Помощник президента заверил, что были использованы все возможности и усилия для того, чтобы украинскую команду убедить в необходимости принятия такого шага.
«Украинские переговорщики это прекрасно понимают. Они также понимают, что все зависит от решения их политического руководства», - отметил он.
Говоря о трехсторонних переговорах по украинскому урегулированию, Ушаков напомнил, что после встречи в таком формате в Женеве в феврале контакты на троих не проводились.

ADNOC shipped at least 6 million barrels in April aboard four tankers carrying Upper Zakum and Das crude. Cargoes were transferred offshore, stored in Oman, or sent to South Korea and Malaysia.
