🇸🇩🇪🇹 Sudan Recalls Ambassador to Ethiopia Amid Mutual Accusations of Territorial Violations

Sudan has withdrawn its ambassador to Ethiopia for consultations, army-aligned Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salem announced on May 6, 2026. Sudan's army spokesman Assim Awad accused Ethiopia and the UAE of launching drone strikes against Khartoum airport. Ethiopia's foreign ministry denied the allegations as baseless and counter-accused Sudan's armed forces of arming and financing Tigray People's Liberation Front fighters conducting incursions along Ethiopia's western frontier.

The UAE is widely regarded as the primary backer of the Rapid Support Forces, the paramilitary group that has been at war with the Sudanese government since 2023. A senior TPLF official, Amanuel Assefa, denied any connection to Sudanese authorities.

Malaysia will engage Norway through diplomatic channels over supply issues affecting its contract with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KDA) for Naval Strike Missiles (NSM) destined for the Royal Malaysian Navy's Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program. Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin confirmed the ministry has noted a shift in Norway's government stance on defence export approvals, which has disrupted contract implementation.

The NSM procurement forms part of Malaysia's plan to equip its LCS fleet with surface-to-surface anti-ship missile capability. Norway's tightening of defence export controls reflects a broader reassessment by European suppliers of arms transfers amid shifting global security conditions — with downstream effects now reaching Southeast Asian procurement pipelines.

Kuala Lumpur has signalled it will pursue follow-up action guided by strategic interest while preserving bilateral ties with Oslo.
