❗️Several drones entered Latvian airspace from Russia this morning, two of which were shot down by the National Armed Forces.
According to the State Fire and Rescue Service, at around 03:30 on Thursday, they received several reports of a possible fire at an oil storage facility in Rēzekne.
Residents shared videos on social media showing a flash of light over the city and the sound of an explosion, Delfi reports.
Upon arrival, firefighters found no open fire, but one of the tanks required cooling.
At around 04:00, residents in several regions were warned about a potential threat in Latvian airspace.
Latvian Defense Minister Andris Sprūds said it is possible that a drone launched by Ukraine at targets in Russia, including the port of Ust-Luga, may have entered the country.
According to preliminary information, the drone may have deviated from its course due to Russian electronic warfare interference. This remains an assumption.
“We are in constant contact with the Ukrainian side. It is important to understand that such incidents are a direct consequence of the war started by Russia,” Sprūds said.
