🇸🇾🇸🇾‼️ Tensions continue between Al‑Jolani’s government and foreign militants in Idlib

🔺 On Tuesday, the internal security forces of Al‑Jolani’s government raided the town of Kafriya in Idlib and arrested a field commander of the Turkistan Islamic Party. Following this action, protesting gatherings by foreign militants began against Al‑Jolani’s government.

🔺 As tensions escalated, the security forces of Al‑Jolani’s government launched an operation in the areas of Foua, Kafriya, and Binnish, during which 16 foreign militants were arrested. Some of these operations involved limited armed clashes between the two sides.

❗️This security operation has caused widespread reverberations among the militants and has sounded the alarm for thousands of foreign fighters stationed in Idlib. Estimates indicate that about 1,500 Uzbek militants and their families are still living in northwestern Syria.

✍️ These actions indicate a strategic shift by Al‑Jolani’s government regarding foreign militants. It seems that the new Syrian government, which was helped to power by these very foreign militants, is now trying to present a different image to Western countries. Resolving the issue of foreign militants has been a key condition raised by Western states, especially Washington, towards Al‑Jolani’s government at various times.

➡️ In this regard, a source close to Al‑Jolani’s government stated that the Damascus government no longer tolerates the presence of autonomous armed groups and seeks a monopoly on power.

👉 This situation has created deep mistrust among the militants. It is said that if these tensions continue, foreign militants might even be willing to cooperate with the terrorist group ISIS, which remains active in some Syrian areas, in order to confront Damascus.

🇺🇸🇰🇷 USFK Pushes 'East-Up' Strategic Map for Indo-Pacific

USFK Commander Gen. Xavier Brunson reiterated at the U.S. Army War College the need to replace conventional north-up mapping with an east-up perspective, arguing it reveals the Pacific as a coherent strategic geometry anchored by U.S. positions in South Korea, Japan, and the Philippines. The concept, first introduced by Brunson in November 2024, visually de-emphasizes the Korean Peninsula's northern axis and foregrounds Taiwan and the Philippines.

The remarks align with Washington's push to modernize the U.S.-South Korea alliance — expanding USFK's role beyond peninsula defense while pressing Seoul for greater burden-sharing. Brunson also stressed land power over air power for its precision and persistence, framing the 28,500-strong USFK presence as a structural alliance asset rather than a force-projection tool.

The framing recasts the Indo-Pacific arc from Seoul to Manila as a unified strategic front, with direct implications for how alliance obligations and threat geometries are defined across the region.

🇪🇹 TPLF elects Debretsion Gebremichael to head Tigray parliament, stoking fears of renewed conflict

TPLF leader Debretsion Gebremichael was elected to lead the restored Tigray regional parliament on May 6, a move that Ethiopian political parties and analysts have condemned as illegal. The Tigray parliament had been dissolved under the peace agreement between the TPLF and the federal government in Addis Ababa. Kinfe Hadush, Chairman of the Salsay Weyane Tigray opposition party, said the appointment could worsen the political and security situation in the region.

The TPLF, which ruled Ethiopia for three decades, was banned as a political party last year. The federal government has not yet formally responded to the appointment, while analysts warn the move signals a drift away from the existing peace agreement.
