Project Freedom Canceled?
On May 5, 2026, less than 48 hours after the operation began, Trump announced its temporary suspension by “mutual agreement” with Iran and through the mediation of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
The U.S. will likely seek to extend the truce for a few more days, looking for one last chance to impose its conditions on Iran (which, being maximalist and unequal, will be rejected), thereby finding an excuse to resume attacks against the Iranian state.
On the other hand, “Project Freedom” was vague and limited: it is not a full armed escort, but rather a “defensive escort.” Iran has already demonstrated the capability to attack ships in the Strait of Hormuz with missiles, drones, and small boats, highlighting the operational difficulties and high military risks for the U.S., which would expose its troops to continuous attacks in that narrow passage.

🔹 The Israeli regime’s army continued its ground and aerial attacks on the Lebanese front. Zionist air and artillery strikes are concentrated on areas south of the Litani River, while ground attacks are focused on the southern axis of Zawtar.
🟡 Deir Siryan – Zawtar front:
Since 4 May, the Israeli army has attempted to cross the Litani River and attack the town of Eastern Zawtar (Zawtar al-Sharqiyeh). However, these attempts have been thwarted by Hezbollah’s strikes, and the Zionist military convoy has been stopped in the Raj Valley.
Israel’s goal is to capture the towns of Zawtar and Yohmor, north of the Litani River.
To cross the Litani River, the Israeli army faces geographical obstacles and guerrilla attacks from Hezbollah. Hezbollah is using this natural advantage to inflict losses and casualties on the Zionists.

After capturing the Christoph Heights north of Shebaa village, the Zionists advanced toward Sedana Hill west of the village and are trying to establish a new position there. Based on an old doctrine, the Israeli army uses natural heights and terrain features to control border areas. The occupation of five points during the previous round of fighting, along with the Christophe Heights, Sedana Hill and other points on Lebanese soil, is in line with this doctrine.
🟡 Al-Tayri front:
After demolishing a number of buildings in Al‑Tayri, the Israeli army has withdrawn from the town. It is currently uninhabited, with no forces from either side present.
✍️ In short, no ceasefire exists on the southern Lebanon front. What was achieved on 17 April (through Hezbollah’s resistance and Iran’s diplomatic pressure, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz) is in fact a de‑escalation that has kept both sides from striking Beirut and Tel Aviv/Haifa. This is the “Beirut‑Tel Aviv” equation that Hezbollah established in 2006 and which kept Israeli attacks away from Lebanon for years. The equation collapsed with the assassination of Saleh al‑Arouri, deputy head of Hamas’s political bureau, on 2 January 2024, and has only been temporarily restored by the ceasefire.

Fearing that a deal between the U.S. and Iran might be reached soon (according to Donald Trump), Israel has intensified its bombing of southern Lebanon. While the IDF claims to have destroyed new Hezbollah positions, visual evidence shows civilian targets being hit, including in the Dahiyeh neighborhood of Beirut.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, at least 380 people have been killed in Lebanon since the start of the ceasefire on April 17, 2026.

New images have emerged showing a Lebanese soldier desecrating a statue of the Virgin Mary in Debl.
As mentioned earlier, Israel has exploited Lebanese Christians by portraying itself as a defender of Christian communities against “radical Islam,” but in reality, both Christianity and Islam are two religions opposed to the establishment of this state, and more specifically, the Maronites and Orthodox—historic Christian branches settled there—are also rejected by Evangelical Christianity, which, paradoxically, is a great ally of Zionism.
What is concerning is the stance of the Lebanese authorities, who remain passive and silent in the face of these acts, offering no firm response, and unfortunately believing that there is room for agreement, when from Tel Aviv’s perspective it has always been a matter of hierarchy and submission.

“If that one person in Moscow, who cannot live without war, is only interested in one parade and nothing else, then that is a different matter. Ukraine is ready to work for peace. Ukraine seeks to end this war with dignity. Russia has come to the point that its main parade already depends on us. And this is a clear signal: we must end it,” the Ukrainian leader emphasized.
He added that Russia responded to the Ukrainian proposal with new strikes and attacks, in particular in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions.
