Six years after the so-called Operation Gedeón, a group of detainees linked to this case initiated a hunger strike at Fuerte Guaicaipuro, their relatives reported on Sunday.

The measure, which involves at least 15 inmates, seeks to demand their transfer to other penitentiary centers and reactivate efforts to achieve their full freedom.

Relatives state that those participating in the hunger strike are those in better physical condition, while other inmates cannot join due to health problems.

Fuel shortages have hit multiple regions across Riau province over the past week, with motorcycles, trucks, and cars forming long queues at nearly every petrol station. First reports emerged on April 30, affecting Pekanbaru and surrounding areas.

The shortages coincided with a Pertamina price hike on May 4 for several non-subsidised fuel products — just four days after supply disruptions began. The timing has amplified pressure on consumers already facing constrained access to fuel ahead of the adjustment.

The overlap between supply gaps and the price increase risks compounding distribution stress across Riau if restocking is delayed.

🇸🇩🇦🇪 UAE Charges 13 Individuals Including Sudan Army Chief of Staff Over Weapons Trafficking

The United Arab Emirates has charged 13 individuals and six companies with weapons trafficking, money laundering, forgery, and use of official documents in cases referred to the UAE State Security Court. Among those indicted in absentia is Sudan Armed Forces chief of staff General Yasir al Atta. Prosecutors allege the defendants attempted to move ammunition through UAE territory to the SAF, linking the operation to a committee chaired by Sudan's army chief Abdel Fattah al Burhan. UAE authorities say they intercepted millions of rounds of ammunition at an unspecified airport in 2025 destined for Sudan; the SAF dismissed the claims as fake news.

Abu Dhabi has backed the rival Rapid Support Forces since Sudan's civil war began in April 2023, while Burhan's government filed a case against the UAE at the International Court of Justice in March 2025 over genocide allegations.

During our meeting today, we discussed the security situation in the Middle East and the Gulf, as well as key challenges and security opportunities.

We spoke about Iran’s strikes against Bahrain and other countries, as well as the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Ukraine is ready to share this security expertise with Bahrain and help strengthen the protection of life. I proposed signing a Drone Deal and scaling up cooperation with Bahrain, and we agreed that our teams will work out the details.

We also raised the issue of opening embassies in each other’s countries.
