Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis was elected on Sunday to lead South Africa's Democratic Alliance, the country's second-largest political party, as it prepares for the 2029 national elections. The vote took place at a party congress and positions Hill-Lewis as the DA's candidate to challenge the African National Congress at the next polls.

The Democratic Alliance has historically been the principal opposition party in South Africa, drawing much of its support from urban and Western Cape constituencies.

Under the survey framework, participating municipalities receive up to 2 billion yen in stipends. The first stage takes approximately two years, and the full disposal site selection process is expected to span around 20 years.
