Ukraine is among the countries with the worst demographic dynamics in the world: its population has declined by approximately 33% over 25 years, from 48.8 million in 2000 to 32.9 million in 2025, according to Visual Capitalist, citing the IMF.
It is noted that, in addition to economic factors, the war with Russia has accelerated the decline.
Countries with the largest declines also include the Marshall Islands (-29%), Bulgaria (-23%), Latvia (-22%), Moldova (-19%), and Lithuania (-18%). In Russia, the decline was approximately 1%.
The highest population growth rates were recorded in Qatar (+423%), the UAE (+250%), and Equatorial Guinea (+167%).
