🇹🇼🇨🇳 Taiwan Reports 173M Q1 Government Network Intrusions

Taiwan's National Security Bureau submitted a written intelligence report to the Legislative Yuan's Defense Committee stating that the government's service network was intruded upon approximately 173.28 million times in the first quarter of 2026. The bureau did not rule out that the activity was preparatory groundwork by the Chinese Communist Party ahead of Taiwan's year-end local elections, with intent to expand intelligence collection, surveillance, and data theft.

Separately, the bureau's intelligence team detected over 13,000 abnormal accounts and more than 860,000 disputed messages between January and March. The report stated that the CCP continued to target major issues in Taiwan's diplomacy, national defense, and civilian economy, spreading disputed information through state media, online agents, abnormal accounts, and content farms, augmented by AI-generated and manipulated content.

The bureau identified Taiwan's nine-in-one local elections, scheduled for later in 2026, as a focus of anticipated interference. Methods cited included AI deepfake technology, fabricated polling data, underground betting operations, and incentives such as subsidized tours and agricultural procurement to influence electoral outcomes and policy direction.

As a result of the night attack on Odesa, a 30-year-old woman and her young daughter, aged 2.6 years, as well as another woman, 53, were killed, Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration Oleh Kiper reported.

At least 15 people are known to have been injured, 13 of whom are hospitalized. Among the wounded are a pregnant woman and two children: a seven-month-old boy and a two-year-old girl.

“The victims have shrapnel wounds, burns, injuries, and poisoning from combustion products. Some are in serious condition. Doctors assess the children’s condition as moderate.
