United Kingdom plans to increase pressure on Russia and its “shadow fleet” to limit funding for the war in Ukraine.

Defence Secretary John Healey said allies have already stopped about 200 of nearly 600 shadow fleet vessels, but London is ready to go further.

“We have also decided to step up our action to further tighten the screws on Putin and limit the flow of funds that support his illegal war in Ukraine,” he said.

Healey will discuss additional military and legal steps with allies during the Joint Expeditionary Force summit in Finland.

He added that despite the easing of some U.S. sanctions due to rising oil prices, Western measures have already reduced Russia’s oil export revenues by about a quarter.
