🇺🇸👀 Trump's announcement of "winding down" military efforts against Iran does not mean an immediate end to the war, a US official told Axios.

"He simply said we're getting closer to the target. Meanwhile, US forces continue to strike. It will take a couple of weeks," the official said.

Furthermore, some Trump advisers believe ground operations are still possible.

Axios reports that the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz puts Trump in a difficult position: he cannot end the war on his own terms while Iran is blocking oil exports from the Persian Gulf, but opening the strait by force could lead to escalation and endanger US forces.

According to sources, Trump initially wanted to end the war by the end of March, but the crisis in the strait has forced him to act longer than planned.

Allies and advisers describe Trump as divided on the war:

"On the one hand, he's concerned about the price of oil and is irritated that his allies are not helping resolve the Strait of Hormuz issue.

On the other hand, he's pleased with the demonstration of military might that's destroying Iranian leaders and armed forces."
