Dies erklärt Präsident Wolodymyr Selenskyj gegenüber Journalisten nach seinem Besuch in Frankreich. Die Gespräche waren ursprünglich für Mittwoch und Donnerstag nächster Woche angesetzt, doch die amerikanische Seite bat um eine Verschiebung. "Wegen des Krieges im Nahen Osten gibt es eine ganze Saga rund um diese Verhandlungen. Die Amerikaner sagten, sie seien bereit für ein Treffen, aber nur in den USA, da die Sicherheitslage sie derzeit daran hindert, das Land zu verlassen", erklärt Selenskyj. Die Ukraine bestätigt, dass ihre Delegation bereit sei, nach Miami oder Washington zu reisen, doch Russland lehnte ein Treffen in den USA ab und schlug stattdessen die Türkei oder die Schweiz vor, was die Amerikaner jedoch ablehnten. "Wir haben sofort erklärt, dass wir bereit sind, uns nächste Woche zu treffen - wir bereiten uns auf ein Treffen in Amerika, der Schweiz, der Türkei oder sogar, wenn sie sich trauen, in den Emiraten vor", fügt er hinzu und merkt an, dass es von den Amerikanern abhänge, ob die Gespräche stattfinden.

The leaders of Germany, Poland, Romania, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, and Sweden have urged the EU to take measures to prevent Russian citizens who took part in the war against Ukraine from entering the Schengen zone.

This was reported by DW, citing a letter addressed to the presidents of the European Council and the European Commission.

The signatories note that Russian combatants pose a threat to EU security, “in particular due to serious crimes, the activities of organized criminal networks, extremist movements, and hostile state activity as part of Russia’s hybrid actions.”

They also state that Russia has sent more than 180,000 convicted criminals recruited from prisons to fight against Ukraine. As troop rotations and potential demobilization continue, the number of people with recent combat experience seeking to travel abroad could increase significantly, the letter warns.

Zelensky says the United States and several Gulf countries have asked Ukraine for support, including capabilities to counter drones. He also says Russia is an ally of the Iranian regime and warns lifting sanctions on Russia would be harmful.
