Auf Nachfrage, ob die USA das tun, sagt Trump: "Ja, wir helfen ihnen auch. Und er (Putin) sagt das, und China würde das gleiche sagen. Es ist wie: 'Hey, sie tun es und wir tun es, in aller Fairness'", so der US-Präsident. Die "Washington Post" hatte berichtet, Moskau habe Geheimdienstinformationen an Teheran weitergegeben, darunter Standorte von US-Kriegsschiffen und -Flugzeugen in der Region. Trump hatte am vergangenen Samstag dazu noch gesagt, er sehe keine Anzeichen für eine russische Unterstützung im Iran-Krieg.
