The body concluded that Correa meets the criteria of local legislation and the 1951 Refugee Convention. According to Conare’s opinion, no direct evidence was identified linking Correa to acts of vandalism during the 2023 protest.

🤡 According to the document, Correa expressed a “well-founded fear of persecution” if he were to return to Brazil. The body argued that the conviction by the STF is linked to the attribution of a political opinion resulting from his presence at the demonstration against the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. According to the text, “the alleged persecution is linked to the political opinion attributed to the applicant.”

⚖️ The document also mentions criticism of the STF proceedings, such as limitations on the defense and the trial being conducted by the court itself rather than in a lower court. For Conare, these circumstances raise doubts about respect for the guarantees of due process of law. Therefore, in granting refugee status, the body concluded that there is not sufficient evidence of the applicant’s direct participation in the crimes attributed to those responsible for the attacks on the headquarters of the Three Branches of Government.

🇧🇷⚖️❌😎 — Federal Police delegate Fábio Alvarez Shor was officially appointed as an advisor in the office of Justice Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court; the delegate became known for criminally indicting former president Jair Bolsonaro

❗️ Shor is a counterintelligence specialist and took part in investigations involving former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in inquiries such as the alleged attempted coup d’état after the 2022 elections, the January 8, 2023 acts, and the episode of the Saudi jewels, which was later closed by the PGR.

👮 During the investigations into the alleged coup inquiry, Shor was responsible for taking testimony from Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, Bolsonaro’s former aide-de-camp who entered into a plea bargain agreement with the Polícia Federal.

⁉️ According to initial information, Shor will work directly in support of criminal cases analyzed by Moraes at the Supreme Court. The role involves technical advisory work in investigations and criminal actions under the justice’s rapporteurship.

To make the situation even more complicated, Shor will become the first police delegate in Brazil’s history to work in the office of a judge.
