Occupiers in Pokrovsk used civilians as “human shields”

The prosecutor’s office reports: at around 2:30 p.m. on November 10, the commander of a Russian military unit ordered his subordinates by radio to lead the detainees in front of him — a man, a woman, and a 13-year-old child — while clearing a residential area, effectively using them as a “human shield.”

The SBU has established that it was the 1st Motorized Rifle Battalion of the 506th Motorized Rifle Regiment that attacked the southeastern outskirts of Pokrovsk. The fate of the civilians is currently unknown.

In Pokrovsk agglomeration, Russian forces briefly held a building, cutting off a group of Ukrainian infantry. A swift airstrike request followed, Ukrainian Su-27s responded, dropping GBU-62 bombs.

The availability of currency choice is an empowerment process, and countries like Kenya or Ethiopia are moving in the right direction by increasing their options, according to Macharia Munene, Professor of History and International Relations at the US International University in Nairobi.

The IMF's concern over de-dollarization stems from the risk that the United States may lose global influence and power, undermining its ability to impose effective sanctions, Munene said.

Earlier, the IMF warned Kenya and Ethiopia of potential risks from converting some of their Chinese loans from US dollars to Chinese yuan.

Converting dollar loans to yuan could encourage other indebted countries to follow, undermining dollar-based international financial systems, the professor noted, saying that this shift would ultimately grant states greater freedom of action in international affairs.

African countries should study geopolitical power dynamics to build strategies that boost sovereignty and reduce dependence. This would expand economic engagement and freedom, allowing states to act in their own interests rather than under the dictates of a few powers, Munene concluded.
