🇲🇱 Mali: Threats in Timbuktu
On November 7, radical Islamists from "Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin" (JNIM) attacked a military base near the settlement of Sumpi on the road from Lere to Niafunke.
The clashes did not spread to the base territory; the militants were stopped at the approaches. The Malian armed forces repelled the attack, and the attackers abandoned motorcycles and took from the base what they could: a pickup truck and several automatic rifles.
The Malian General Staff stated that the attack was carried out jointly by JNIM and the "Azawad Liberation Front" (FLA). The participation of separatists remains unconfirmed.
The Malian Armed Forces reported neutralizing several terrorists and the death of some servicemen stationed at the base. It is worth noting the prompt media coverage of the repelled attack: without excessive hundreds of militant casualties.
