In today’s Nimbus glossary, we’re uncovering why it was created and what advantages it offers.
What is BEP-20?
BEP-20 is a token standard on Binance Smart Chain derived from ERC-20 and is completely compatible with it. It describes how BSC-based tokens can be spent and by whom and offers developers a flexible format for launching tokens.
It was created as a technical specification for BSC, which is essential for smart contract development on this chain. The standard applies to all tokens created or launched on BSC, whether they are security tokens, utility tokens, or stablecoins.
BEP-20 can also be used to create the so-called ‘Peggy Coins’, which are crypto tokens that can be pegged against different assets.
