Project Description:
Socratic Mentor is a simple AI chatbot that helps students learn by asking guiding questions instead of giving direct answers.

Many students use AI to get answers without understanding the material. Socratic Mentor fixes this by guiding them step by step until they figure it out themselves—building real understanding.

It also has a hint system for when students get stuck, and celebrates with confetti when they solve problems on their own.

The MVP demonstrates how AI can be used not just to provide answers, but to create a genuine learning experience that fosters independent thinking.

Project Description — MVP Solution
Qorma is a collaborative EdTech platform built to make exam preparation more accessible, effective, and engaging for Ethiopian students.
Students preparing for the Ethiopian University Entrance Examination (EUEE) often rely on scattered PDF past papers, limited feedback, and separate chat groups to study. Qorma brings these experiences together in one platform.
With Qorma, students can browse real past EUEE exams, practice questions interactively, receive immediate feedback and explanations, review their mistakes, bookmark difficult questions, and track their accuracy, progress, and study streak.
What makes Qorma different is its Study Groups. Students preparing for the same exams can create or join groups, discuss difficult questions, attach actual Qorma questions to discussions, and participate in group challenges and leaderboards. This turns exam preparation from a purely individual experience into a collaborative learning environment.
The MVP focuses on one simple learning loop:

Title: StudAI – AI-Powered Academic Learning Platform
 
University students often struggle with scattered study materials, past exams, and multiple tabs (platforms) for studying and managing academic activities. Generic AI tools also lack context about students’ specific courses and learning materials.

StudAI is an all-in-one AI-powered learning platform that brings academic resources and study tools into one place. Students can upload course materials and use AI to generate summaries, flashcards, practice questions, explanations, notes, and context-aware conversations based on their materials. The platform also supports academic scheduling and study planning.

StudAI includes a structured past-exam management and practice system, where administrators organize exams by university, department, curriculum, year, semester, and course. AI extracts questions from uploaded exams, which administrators verify before making them available for student practice.

Overall, StudAI makes university learning more organized, contextual, and efficient by combining AI-powered studying, academic resources, note-taking, scheduling, and exam preparation in a single platform.
For now, StudAI is being developed for AASTU’s Software Engineering Department. It is an ongoing project and is not yet finished or deployed. Expansion to other departments and universities is planned soon.

Students often struggle to digest dense, multi-hundred-page academic textbooks and technical lecture materials. Traditional static PDFs lack interactivity, while generic AI chatbots suffer from hallucinations and fail to cite exact textbook figures, formulas, and pages.

Folio solves this by transforming static PDFs into an interactive study workspace powered by Gemini. Folio parses multi-page documents, generates hierarchical chapter roadmaps, and vectors textbook excerpts for citation-grounded Q&A.

Students can chat directly with their textbooks with verifiable page references, generate adaptive practice quizzes with real-time feedback, trigger active recall flashcard decks, and explore visual chapter summaries—turning passive reading into active, mastery-based learning.

Most learning platforms have students read and answer multiple-choice questions which is good for building recognition, not real understanding and none of them explain concepts through the student's own cultural lens.
Awde replaces passive textbook reading with active, culturally-grounded mastery. Students explore interactive mind-maps of a topic, where every concept is explained through a localized Ethiopian analogy — e,g: a Jebena coffee ceremony for thermal equilibrium, Equb savings for the First Law of Thermodynamics, the GERD's turbines for the electron transport chain. Then they have to prove they actually understand it: teaching the concept back, in their own words, to Rooty — a strict AI Socratic peer who grades clarity in real time, flags unexplained jargon, and keeps probing until the explanation genuinely holds up.
Beyond the Feynman arena, Awde includes active-recall quizzes, a full deep-work suite (Pomodoro, the Blurting Method, spaced-repetition flashcards), and a Method Laboratory that measures each student's real before/after recall improvement — so it's not just a study app, it's a way to find out which study method actually works for your brain.
Fully bilingual (English ⇄ Amharic) across every screen, analogy, and quiz. No login or API key required to try it. it runs with offline fallback generators out of the box and uses a 3 step fallback for the AIs gemini, groq, nvidia nim(all free tiers)
