The day is observed to honour the legendary physician and the 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐥, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐁𝐢𝐝𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐚 𝐑𝐨𝐲 whose birth (1882) and death (1962) anniversaries fall on July 1st.
The sole purpose of celebrating this day is 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 and acknowledge the 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐢𝐝 the 𝐝𝐨𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐮𝐬, especially during the deadly 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐮𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬.
