National Highways and Express Highways are both high-speed roads, but they differ in their purpose, design, and features:

National Highways:

1. Connect major cities, towns, and ports across the country
2. Form the backbone of India's road network
3. Typically have 2-4 lanes (with some exceptions)
4. Allow access to adjacent properties and local traffic
5. Have slower speed limits (usually 80-100 km/h)
6. May have intersections, traffic signals, and pedestrian crossings
7. Funded and maintained by the Central Government

Express Highways:

1. Designed for high-speed travel (typically 120-150 km/h)
2. Connect specific regions, cities, or economic hubs
3. Usually have 4-6 lanes or more
4. Limited access points, with grade-separated interchanges
5. No pedestrian crossings or local traffic access
6. Often have tolls for usage
7. May be funded and maintained by private entities or public-private partnerships.

Key differences:

- Speed limits and design
- Access control and interchanges
- Funding and maintenance models
- Purpose (connectivity vs. high-speed travel)
