these shoes have been in my wishlist for so long. i’ve stared at them more times than i can count
so someone said, "if you're so against over consumerism then why would you want to buy these overpriced shoes?", and its a very valid question.

okay. here's the thing.
i own exactly three pairs of footwear.
one pair of heels, bought three years ago, not exactly worn everyday, and they’re on the verge of breaking.
one pair of shoes, my college regulars. still going strong.
one pair of flats, for summers or rainy days. that’s it. that’s my whole "collection." i don’t believe in owning every kind of shoe just for the sake of it. i believe in wearing what i own, using it fully, and when something breaks, only then replacing it.
so yes, i can want those flats because they’re beautiful and because they’ll fill a space in my very practical and very minimal wardrobe.
also i won’t even buy the overpriced ones (paise nhi h). i’ll find a dupe that does the job and lasts the kind of wear i’m planning for. so yeah, it’s about allowing myself small joys every now and then.

the thing is that this whole shift in aesthetic trends is not random. these are marketing ploys. buy one pink top and suddenly you’re being sold the entire barbie-core lifestyle. put on a certain pair of glasses or do your eyeliner a certain way and you’ve entered siren-core, office-core, corporate girly. wear a black turtleneck and read one classic in autumn and apparently you’re now a dark academia girly. do you hear how ridiculous that sounds? because i don’t get it. i don’t understand this need to assign an entire identity to a colour palette or one clothing item.
and we’re expected to keep up with all of it every month.
to me, personal style is what you wear when you’re not trying. when it doesn’t feel like a costume. when it’s just you, feeling comfortable in your own skin and your own clothes. and personally, i’m not letting capitalism win. not in the choices i can control. and i honestly think that’s something every individual needs to do for themselves.
you don’t need to buy into every trend. if you're buying something, buy it mindfully. buy it because you need it, it fits in your life. and if you're gifting, support small businesses. if you’re buying clothes, maybe skip Zara and H&M every time. one good pair of jeans can last you 2to3 years easily. yes, we all have to consume. we’re living a life. we need things.
but the way you consume, that’s where our ethics show. we can build a wardrobe that makes sense and we can still look good without selling our soul to trends. so no, capitalism doesn’t win here.

and lets not ignore the environmental side of it. every piece of clothing we buy without intention has a footprint.

and no, i’m not saying i’ve been perfect.
forgive me, Karl Marx, for i have bought.
i’ve made mistakes in the past. i’ve bought things i didn’t need, fallen into the trap.
but for the past two, maybe three years, i’ve been trying to be better. i’m not perfect. no one is. but the point is, we grow. we course-correct. we try to live in a way that doesn’t let capitalism win every time we get sad or bored.
because this isn't just about one top or one pair of jeans. it's about our patterns.

started listening to dhh just a few months back actually. a friend suggested a couple of songs and i ended up liking the vibe. and since then, i’ve just stuck with the few artists and songs i connect with. i don’t listen to everything, and i don’t feel the need to either.
but there’s this weird assumption that girls only listen to dhh to impress guys or to “look cool”as if we can’t just enjoy music for ourselves. like, why is it so hard to believe that some of us just genuinely like the music?
i choose songs based on how they make me feel. it’s not that deep. sometimes i need something energetic yet chill while i’m coming back home from college. and this genre, weirdly enough, gives me both. i don’t sit and analyze every bar. i don’t follow every artist's life story. i just listen to what clicks with me.
and no, i don’t care if that doesn’t make me a “real fan” to some self-proclaimed expert. not everything has to be performative. i’m not listening to prove anything or impress anyone. especially not men.
some of us are just here for the music. let us vibe in peace.

also, there's a similar situationwith watching kdramas. i too watch kdramas. not a regular thing, just once in a while, when i feel like it. i’m not crazy about them or anything, but as someone who’s lowkey a hopeless romantic, it feels nice to watch something soft like that.
but then again, there’s so much stigma around liking kdramas?? like if you say you watch them, people immediately label you as cringe or unserious.
not everything has to be serious or edgy. sometimes you just wanna watch two people fall in love under cherry blossoms while it rains?
and no, i’m not talking about kpop here. not a stan. not into the whole aggressive fandom culture. fans can be so weird sometimes ngl. kpop is a whole different thing and honestly, that’s not my scene anymore.
but the dramas. yeah, most of the romance ones are kinda similar. but some of them are actually so good like, genuinely well written, emotionally satisfying, beautifully shot. and when you find one of those, it’s just the best thing ever. once in a while when nothing else works or when i’m just in that space,a kdrama does the job.

my point with both these things is
that LET PEOPLE ENJOY WHAT THEY ENJOY. dont label them or shame them for any of it. just let people BE
