​Metaverse could be worth $3 trillion to global GDP in 10 years

The metaverse could contribute $3 trillion to the global GDP within a decade if it evolves in the same way mobile technology has in terms of adoption, according to new research.

The report concludes that if the mass adoption of metaverse technology started in 2022, it would lead to a 2.8 per cent contribution to global GDP by 2031. The study adopted previous research done on breakthrough technology to properly gauge the potential of the metaverse.

Filed under “Vayner3,” the company would be just the latest project on Vaynerchuk’s growing list of NFT ventures, along with his VeeFriends NFT collection, VeeCon conference (which took place in Minneapolis two weeks ago) and “FlyFish Club” NFT-gated restaurant.The company will also offer “advertising, marketing and promotion services” related to NFTs, all considered current specialties of Vaynerchuk’s brand as an influencer in the space.

Nearly 30 years before Facebook became Meta, there was “the metaverse.” The author Neal Stephenson coined the term in his cyberpunk novel Snow Crash in 1992 to describe an online, VR-ish world where the inhabitants of humankind could interact and escape the dystopian unpleasantness of meatspace.

Though Stephenson has long been fascinated by cryptography and digital money, as evidenced by his novel Cryptonomicon, he has admitted to being slow to embrace the actual crypto movement. That changed this week with his involvement in the launch of Lamina1, announced at the Consensus conference in Austin, Texas. In an interview with Decrypt, Stephenson and Lamina1 co-founder Peter Vessenes, a crypto pioneer and co-founder of the Bitcoin Foundation, elaborated a bit on the project.
