Today the House passed a 1T infrastructure bill that awaits the President's signature. This bill includes an amendment to the tax code, it requires everyone but banks and financial institutions to report receipts of 'any digital asset' exceeding $10,000 in value.

Yes, that includes cryptocurrencies and NFTs. It'll require you to record names, addresses, and tax ID numbers from the person you got crypto from.

Users of decentralized finance are especially at risk as there's no way to get this info from their liquidity pools or smart contracts.

I had another successful weekend at the Exit and Build land summit, met dozens of people from around the country looking for a simpler way of life away from unstable societies. Thanks to John Bush for bringing everyone together in Central Texas.

In person connection is so crucial, this year I'm going to get involved with Freedom Cells and similar communities around the country, I'd like to tell the stories of growth that are rarely heard outside local circles. It is so important to hear how people are dealing with challenges and coming together, hearing what works for others is motivation to 'just do it'.

It is so predictive of bad health outcomes that it has itself been called a pandemic by many scientists and in the title of at least one peer-reviewed paper.

Vitamin D is synthesized in your skin, upon exposure to the sun. It can also be acquired through the diet, although greater than 90% of the vitamin D supply of our species is understood to be derived from exposure to ultraviolet B light, specifically from the sun4. The farther you get from the equator, the less intense the sunlight is—and therefore the less capable it is of helping you create vitamin D. Winter, too, poses a problem for vitamin D synthesis.

Compound the two—winter and high latitude—and nearly no vitamin D synthesis occurs.

Heard from another user today that the Above Agency website is getting flagged by Bitdefender for 'loading intrusive software'. The intrusive software it's referring to is Ackee, an open-source private by design analytics tool.

We run this software on our own servers, using it to measure basic page visits (and that's literally all its used for). It collects no user information, and because of that, it technically doesn't need to be mentioned. Still, because we value transparency and our visitors privacy, it is outlined in our privacy policy.

From the policy:
Usage Data: This site uses an open-source privacy-focused analytics solution (Ackee). We run the solution on our own servers, and it does not gather IP addresses or other personally identifiable information. We use it to get general statistics on page views.

Ackee works by anonymizing the IP/user-agent client side and creating a hash, this hash is what is used to count it as a unique visit - no personal information is gathered.

This is far more private than traditional analytics software which will log IPs, user agents, and use cookies to uniquely identify a visitor and their browsing patterns. Many analytics solutions (like Google Analytics) use a third party service and will share this information with them.

Its quite ironic and hypocritical that they have labeled Ackee 'instrusive software'.

Normally, I really wouldn't care but the issue is that Bitdefender doesn't apply their rules consistently. They side with and protect big tech analytics solutions. If they really want to stand against intrusive software, I suggest they blacklist every site using Google Analytics as well as Ackee.

I've reported the false positive to Bitdefender, let's see what happens.

Closing thoughts:
1. If you manage a website, avoid using cloud based analytics tools or Google Analytics.
2. Don't expect Big Tech security tools like BitDefender to be fair, you should be using a self-managed script blocker like UMatrix.

YouTube Just Announced It’ll Be Hiding Dislike Counts on Videos Across Its Site Starting Today

📡@G3News: YouTube has just announced that it’ll be hiding public dislike counts on videos across its site, starting today (Nov. 10).

The company says the change is to keep smaller creators from being targeted by dislike attacks or harassment, and to promote “respectful interactions between viewers and creators.”

The dislike button will still be there, but it’ll be for private feedback, rather than public shaming.
