The role played by a clean environment in preventing the spread of infectious diseases cannot be overemphasised.

This National Environmental Sanitation Day, let us institute and enforce measures and policies to ensure regular and proper environmental sanitation in our homes, communities, States and country.
Unsafe practices such as improper disposal of refuse and open defecation endanger the safety of water used for drinking and personal use.

#Meningitis is an inflammation of the membranes around the spinal cord & brain.

Seek medical attention when you experience signs & symptoms such as
Fever/severe headache
Vomiting
Drowsiness
Rash
Seizures
Muscle/joint pain
Stiff neck

Foods can become contaminated with dirty hands during preparation or while eating, causing #cholera

➡️Cook food thoroughly before eating
➡️Wash raw fruits and vegetables with safe water before eating
➡️Reheat leftovers well before eating
➡️People with diarrhoea should avoid preparing food or hauling water for others

Bacterial meningitis leaves 1 in 5 people with disabilities such as hearing loss, brain damage and limb loss.

But meningitis is largely vaccine-preventable!

Parents/caregivers are urged to visit any primary health care centre to get their children/wards vaccinated against #meningitis.
ALWAYS boil your water before drinking.

Water from CONTAMINATED storage tanks are not safe for drinking.

Make your water safe: Boil and store in properly covered containers before drinking.
