In my latest Substack I look at Britain's rapid demographic transformation as a case study of the transition of Western nations to migration states.
Despite myths of non-White immigrants rebuilding Britain after WW2, the arrivals were quite small, and successive governments restricted immigration on racial lines throughout the latter half of the 20th Century.
There was also no sustained lobbying effort from NGO's or big business interests for the radical expansion of immigration in the 1990s. It was New Labour, who married their ideological commitment to liberal pluralism with an embrace of Neoliberal economic reforms emphasising "labour market flexibility" that led this transformation.
