Virus Total itself leaks data of its 5,600 customers
Virus Total is malware scanning platform that analyzes suspicious files, URLs, domains, IPs to detect threats, and automatically shares them with the security community creating a library of malware signatures
Accidentally, an employee uploaded a 313KB CSV File which contains names & email addresses of over 5,600 VirusTotal Premium Account customers.
The leaked information contains details of National Security Agency (NSA), Pentagon, the FBI, and many U.S. military branches.
The file also included accounts linked to Govt agencies in the UK, Japan, UAE, Qatar, Israel, Turkey, France, Estonia, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine etc
Fun Fact: VirusTotal is a subsidiary of Google and it was acquired in 2012
VirusTotal says that the leaked file was ONLY accessible to VirusTotal partners and cybersecurity analysts with Premium accounts.
Anonymous or free accounts users cannot reach the leaked file
