The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Competitions Committee has decided that USM Alger partially lost 3-0 in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) decision came in a controversial move that exacerbates diplomatic tensions between Algeria and Morocco, following a crisis sparked by the Algerian authorities’ seizure of the shirts of Moroccan team Nahda Berkane.

The crisis arose when the Moroccan team refused to play the match at the 5 July stadium in Algiers due to the confiscation of its shirts by the Algerian authorities, as the shirts carried a map of Morocco integrated with the disputed Western Sahara.

Amid ongoing political tensions in Libya, the question of forming a new government remains a sharp point of contention between the country’s warring parties.

🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾

In light of the lack of consensus between political blocs on a single figure to head the new government, each party has a candidate and does not want a replacement, which shows the challenges facing political consensus efforts.

Media advisor Fathi al-Marimi said that “the speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives has begun receiving the files of candidates for the post of head of the new government,” without revealing the names of the candidates or their number.

According to a source from the Libyan House of Representatives, the number of candidates for the post of prime minister does not exceed 6 people, because each candidate needs a certain number of recommendations from members of the House of Representatives and members of the High Council of State, and each member of the Council is authorized to recommend only one person, which reflects the complexities of political quotas.

Student protest movements and sit-ins continue at many American universities to demand an end to the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.

The protesters called on the United States to stop arming Israel and helping it target civilians inside the Gaza Strip, and to move to stop the war, release Israeli prisoners and push for a political solution.

At Columbia University, police arrested dozens of students during the demonstration, where a demonstration took place in front of the police station demanding the release of detainees who participated in demonstrations in support of the Gaza Strip.

Columbia University President Nemat Shafiq admitted at a meeting of the university’s council of elders that her call in the police to deal with students supporting Palestine has exacerbated the problem.

Al-Aman Bank in Libya announced that it will continue to accept cash deposits in denominations of 50 dinars for the first and second issues in all its branches.

🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾

This decision comes in response to a letter issued by the Bank of Libya on April 21, 2024, which calls for facilitating deposits and withdrawals for citizens.

In the same context, the statements of the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Al-Sadiq Al-Kabir, regarding a counterfeit 50-dinar currency, caused confusion among citizens, created instability, and destabilized the market.

The Central Bank of Libya published a video in which it said that there are four copies of the 50-dinar denomination currently circulating in the market, including two forged copies, prompting calls for Kabir to go out to talk to the people and clarify matters related to this important issue.
