Unidentified gunmen killed two customs officers and wounded two others in an attack targeting them in a designated area on a busy highway.

The attacks come a few days after five other customs officers were killed in the same area, raising concerns about security and stability in the region.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, adding to tension and anxiety between local residents and security authorities.

An area police official, Mohammed Adnan, said the employees were performing their routine work when they were shot by unknown assailants, killing two and wounding two others.

The border areas with Afghanistan have seen an escalation in violence in recent years, with attacks particularly targeting security and police officials, raising concerns about the continued deterioration of security in the region.

Egypt has strongly denied US press reports circulating in some newspapers about its circulation with Israel of military plans regarding the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

In a statement issued by the Egyptian Information Service affiliated with the presidency, its chairman, Diaa Rashwan, affirmed Egypt’s total rejection of any possible invasion of Rafah, warning of the catastrophic repercussions that may follow.

The statement pointed out that Egypt’s warnings were repeatedly addressed to the Israeli side regarding the dangers of the planned invasion of Rafah, while stressing the continuation of Egyptian efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement and the exchange of prisoners and detainees.

Egyptian security forces have taken control of the situation in the village of al-Fawakher in the city of Samalut in the southern governorate of Minya, restoring calm after rumored violence.

Copts in the village were attacked by a group of people over a rumor about building a new church, and some Copts’ homes were torched, beaten, and tried to be evicted from their homes.

Bishop Makarios of Minya posted on his page on the β€œX” website at the beginning of the events: β€œThe Copts in the village of Al-Fawakher in Minya are under attack by extremists, as many houses were burned, and the people were prevented from leaving.”

β€œWe have informed the concerned authorities of the expected attacks, promised to take the necessary steps, and we trust the speed of their action,” he said.

Quickly, security forces deployed in the village, and were able to control the situation and arrest a large number of instigators and perpetrators, and imposed a security cordon around the village and its entrances and exits.
