Нганасаны - одни из самых древних, самых северных и самых немногочисленных на сегодняшний день народов. По данным переписи 2010 года их насчитывалось порядка 800 человек.
Нганасаны традиционно были полукочевым народом, основной формой существования которого была охота на диких оленей, в отличие от ненцев, которые пасли оленей.

The Nganasans are one of the most ancient and the most small-numbered nation of the North today. According to the 2010 census, there were about 800 people.
The Nganasans were traditionally a semi-nomadic people whose main form of subsistence was wild reindeer hunting, in contrast to the Nenets, who herded reindeer.
