Shafaq News/ Informed sources revealed on Saturday that Federal Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani expressed his willingness to pay the salaries of Kurdistan Region employees for the current month of May, under two basic conditions, amid escalating internal and external political pressures.

According to a source close to Shafaq News Agency, Al-Sudani intends to issue an order to disburse salaries to the region's employees in the middle of next week, but in the form of a "temporary loan" from the federal government, outside the region's official financial accounts.

The source explained that the first condition for disbursing salaries is that these amounts be sent as a loan, not as part of the region's entitlements. The second condition is the formation of a joint high-level committee between Erbil and Baghdad to develop radical solutions to the salary crisis, which has accumulated for seven months of 2025. An agreement should be reached before Eid al-Adha.

This comes as an expanded meeting of political forces and parties in the Kurdistan Region is scheduled for Erbil on Saturday to discuss the financial crisis. Meanwhile, a delegation from the regional government is expected to visit Baghdad on Sunday to continue dialogue with the federal government.

The Kurdistan Region's employee salary crisis is one of the most contentious issues between Baghdad and Erbil, amid ongoing debate over oil exports, constitutional obligations, and fiscal policies. This makes the upcoming meetings between the two sides pivotal in breaking the current political and financial deadlock.
