-A 10-month-old infant.
-Chief Complaint
Passage of blood in stool for 4 days
-History of Present Illness
The child was apparently well until about one week before admission, when he developed watery diarrhea, large in amount, occurring around 5 times per day.
After that, the stool became bloody and was described as resembling currant jelly stool.
-There is no clear history of:
Fever
Cough or runny nose
Vomiting
Abdominal trauma
Similar previous attacks
Family history of bleeding disorder or chronic illness
-General Examination
Ill-looking
Lethargic
Mildly pale
Not cyanosed
Not jaundiced
No edema
-Abdominal Examination
Mild abdominal distension
No visible peristalsis
No marked abdominal tenderness
No palpable abdominal mass
No organomegaly
Positive Dance sign
Percussion: tympanic
Bowel sounds: present / not clearly documented
-Initial Management
NPO
NGT insertion
IV fluids with KCl
Antibiotics
