Why can coming home after an adventure feel strange?

Long adventures can change the way we see ourselves, our priorities, and even what we consider a meaningful life. After experiencing freedom, nature, or a slower pace of life, returning to emails, responsibilities, deadlines, and everyday routines can feel surprisingly overwhelming.

This is sometimes called post-adventure depression — a difficult period of readjustment after an intense and meaningful experience.
