I have received a few queries if UPSC Coaching Industry is a good career backup option.

My Answer: Strictly NO.

I have been in the industry for 10+ years - sharing my insights here:

1. If you start your own YouTube channel - given that almost everyone is a YouTuber today, it is extremely difficult to get new subscribers and views on YouTube. Audience has truck loads of options and you need a very very strong audience connection to survive on YouTube. Gone are those days when a simple UPSC Strategy Video will get you 100k+ views. Today, even the best of content is struggling to get 100+ views.
2. Even if your 1 video goes viral (how I cleared 6 Prelims etc.) - all these are rainy frog topics that will give you a flash of fame and then vanish that limelight the very next month.
3. Entering the coaching industry is not about running a YouTube channel, it is about converting followership into sales, that's what runs your house and kitchen.
4. On the other hand, if you plan to join a coaching factory, you will not get the faculty role. At best, you will get a mentor, copy evaluator or a test series creator role. This will not give you much money and you will have to stay in this role for 3-5 years to become a faculty. Its a long road.
5. Majority of the coaching factories (even if they deny) are in a revenue and market share race. Only those faculties are respected who have either the face value or the power to drive admissions. If you have none, no coaching factory will have the incentive to promote you.
6. DISCLAIMER: IF YOU ARE A GOOD TEACHER, THAT IS ALWAYS SECONDARY FOR A COACHING. PRIMARY FOCUS IS REVENUE DRIVE.

UPSC Coaching Industry in itself is in a phase of consolidation. Many players are either shutting down or are in the talks of getting acquired. Content has limited value in this industry at the current juncture.
