I am living in Russia and the history is my hobby, all my life I got the feeling that something strange and mystical are covered under the ground of streets I walk through every day. I saw lots of towns in both parts of the country in East and West. The same approach in architecture is hard to ignore. I visited some European countries and noticed lots of common features.

I would like to start from the important fact — lots of photos of Russia from 19th century doesn’t have any old trees and forests on it.

By the way, do you know that ‘Soviet’ literally means ‘Advice’?

This engraving depicts Moscow from the late 17th century. What oddities can be found here?

Why is there not a single tree?
Why is the growth of the priest performing the ritual significantly different from the growth of other people?
Why do people dive into a pond?
What relic is being taken out of the walls of the Kremlin?
And why does the shape of the cross not correspond to the customary one accepted by the canon of the Orthodox Church?

It looks like people with the flags of the two-headed eagle took the city under siege. The hastily erected fence allowed the priests to conduct a quick ritual with the blessing of the army. So many questions.

Amur railway in 1910-1914.

No trees, in top-right corner I see several stumps and railway trucks are covered with mud and dug.
Vladivostok is the city in Far East of Russia, I remember granny’s memories of small trees, she was born in Far East in the 1930s. She was sure that only dwarf birch can grow there.

Nevelsky’s monument in Vladivostok. 1900

I can notice lots of architectural elements of the Egyptian style, pyramids, steles, sphinxes throughout Russia, even in small towns. Looks like one culture replaced another. And again no trees.

The old map of Moscow (1796) shows that Kremlin was a part of star fort.

The ancient entrances to the Kremlin wall are covered with hills, but you can see the brick arches. The basement level of the walls is hidden underground.

North America kept some giant trees. Seems no cataclysms happened there for thousands years.

this is exactly what the gravestones looked like before the church schism in the 17th century in Russia. No crosses or any other Christian symbols. It is worth noting that these gravestones were placed in steps or thresholds in Christian churches later.
