🐦‍⬛ [Environment] starlicide- an avicide to kill Indian crows in Kenya
- Avicide = poison to kill birds.
- Crows are intelligent birds. They avoid places where they see their mates dead. So shooting / trapping doesn’t work. So, Slow acting poison is best solution.
- starlicide = A slow bird-poison, kills the birds after 10-12 hrs. So other birds will not know the place/food from which it came. So other birds will also consume the poisoned food, even if they know their mates died.
- Indian house crow became invasive species in Kenya.
- (1) Crows attack the nests of other native birds and eat their eggs.
- (2) Crows kill newborn or sick calves, goats; small sized reptiles, amphibians, mammals and insects. Harming biodiversity.
- (3) Their cawing (=noise) disturbing tourist.
- Kenyan Govt to use starlicide to kill Indian crows.

There is a lot of debate regarding st1. ke radars can't detect narco.

They can detect narco-planes.

In August 2016, Bolivia purchased 13 radars from French company Thales. One of the radars was intended specifically to detect planes carrying drugs.

and st2 and st3 also right as per multiple internet sites.

So answer becomes C: All 3 correct.

However, it remains to be seen whether UPSC examiner was aware of this (st1)

or he casually framed st1 in general sense and intended st1 to be false. Then answer becomes B.

We have to wait till official answerKey is out in 2025. 🥵

2. GSM2: Polity-Governance / IR
3. Essay/GSM3: Evolution of global economy after second world war
4. GSM4: Ethics from world history. e.g. Europeans captured South America, not just with guns, but also with disease like Smallpox bcoz native tribes didn’t have immunity against it.

And it will help you improve the vocabulary and grammar and spelling for answer writing for both English and Hindi
