Money quote: "To test the dress, researchers sent three women to a party wearing it. Throughout the night, we see a heat-map version of it steadily light up in the areas where the women are being grabbed: mostly the lower back, backside, and arms. The visual is imposed over footage of the women brushing off the men and asking not to be touched.
In just under four hours, the women are touched a combined 157 times."

Researchers built a smart dress to show how often women are groped at clubs
For a campaign on behalf of beverage company Schweppes, advertising agency Ogilvy created a touch-sensitive dress that tracked how often—and with what degree of intensity—women in Brazil were groped on an average night out. The goal was to elevate the issue…

Money quote: "That’s a helpful narrative in a world of information overload, and one in which our devices and apps are intentionally designed to get us hooked. Moreover, besides our own mental wellbeing, the attention economy offers a way of looking at some important social problems: from the worrying declines in measures of empathy through to the ‘weaponisation’ of social media.
The problem, though, is that this narrative assumes a certain kind of attention. An economy, after all, deals with how to allocate resources efficiently in the service of specific objectives (such as maximising profit). Talk of the attention economy relies on the notion of attention-as-resource: our attention is to be applied in the service of some goal, which social media and other ills are bent on diverting us from. Our attention, when we fail to put it to use for our own objectives, becomes a tool to be used and exploited by others."

Money quote: "An interpunct is, of course, a vertically centered dot originally used to separate words in Latin and ancient Greek. (Spaces weren’t invented until several centuries later.) The interpunct is still in use today—it’s the official decimal point in British currency (£9·99), and is used to represent the dot product of two vectors in mathematics (x · y). Most relevantly, it’s used in Japanese to separate titles, names, and positions, as in “課長補佐 · 鈴木” (Assistant Section Head · Suzuki). It is therefore entirely appropriate as the separator in WALL·E, which is short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter · Earth Class."

Money quote: "The Magnum PI Aloha shirt made by the Pacific Clothing Company is one of the most iconic of all Hawaiian shirts. And this is because Tom Selleck often wore this shirt on the TV show Magnum PI. Some people have asked us if this is the actual shirt and label (Paradise Found) that he wore on the show. Well, as it turns out, yes it is. According to Tim Smith of Pacific Clothing Company, the maker of Paradise Found label, the TV show apparently sent someone to a department store called Liberty House (Liberty House was like the Hawaii version of Macy’s back in the 1980s) to find appropriate Aloha shirts for the show. Among the shirts that were chosen was the red “Jungle Bird” Aloha shirt that became Magnum PI’s signature shirt. Pacific Clothing found out after the fact that the shirt was being used and started providing the shirts directly to the show. So this most famous of Hawaiian shirts became famous by accident."

Keep calm.
Money quote: "The collective exhaustion—known as pandemic fatigue—has emerged as a formidable adversary for governments that are counting on a high degree of public cooperation with the latest rounds of restrictions to flatten the infection curve. Too much pandemic fatigue, authorities say, can fuel a vicious cycle: A tired public tends to let its guard down, triggering more infections and restrictions that in turn compound the fatigue."
