Money quote: “Lockdowns beyond two months impose massive economic costs without any real health benefits because they only delay an inevitable second wave of the virus, according to a new international COVID-19 study by former Reserve Bank of Australia economist Greg Kaplan.”

In bocca al lupo all’economia.

Money quote: “Tankus understands his niche in the ecosystem of economics. Akin to journalism, it’s about writing the first draft of history. “I’m writing a lot when other people aren’t necessarily putting things out there,” he says. “You can be a great academic, but if you’re not writing all the time you’re not necessarily in people’s minds as someone they would want to ask a question to. I write so much that there’s always something for people to pick up.””

Money quote: “The Roman society promoted sexuality. Prostitution was legal and public. Houses had “pornographic” paintings. No moral punishment was directed at men who enjoyed sex with other women and men, even if they were of inferior status, as long as their actions weren’t deemed as excesses.”

E urgente.

Money quote: "Humanity is divided into two: on the one hand, those who are improvising their way through life, patching solutions together and putting out fires as they go, but deluding themselves otherwise; and on the other, those doing exactly the same, except that they know it. It’s infinitely better to be the latter (although too much “assertiveness training” consists of techniques for turning yourself into the former)."

Money quote: “it's a good, eclectic list, and it's good to support the indies. That used to be what the internet was all about.”

Money quote: “Apple has reset the conversation by creating a new battle for the title “computer of the future” where they control the narrative on both sides of the war. It’s no coincidence that Apple released the 2020 iPad and MacBook Air on the same day. They wanted to add fuel to this fire”.

Money quote:

I'm surprised nobody has registered "xkcd" as an official URI scheme yet...

xkcd://349

If that is not "Demonstrable, New, Long-Lived Utility" (RFC7595) I have no idea what would be...

How about it Randall ? @xkcd

Money quote: “The DeepNude app proves our worst fears about the unique way audiovisual tools can be weaponized against women,” says Mutale Nkonde, a fellow at the Data & Society Research Institute, who advised a bill introduced in Congress by Representative Yvette Clarke that would create mechanisms for victims of such malicious deepfakes to seek legal recourse for reputational damage.”

Money quote: "Truth is that not wearing a bra won’t make your breasts all saggy. The bra changes the shape of your breasts only while you are actually wearing it. Breast sagging is, in fact, genetic. (However, you should wear a bra during exercise, because exercise can put strain on the ligament that holds your breasts up and that will make you sag).

Dress codes, especially school dress codes, often mandate the wearing of bras, even though not everyone needs or wants them and alternate means of support such as shelf camis are just fine."
