Money quote: "New Zealand’s prime minister Jacinda Ardern has suggested employers consider a four-day working week and other flexible working options as a way to boost tourism and help employees address persistent work/life balance issues."

Money quote: "I’ll never forget, for example, the 200 sealed VHS copies of the Oscar-winning Coen Brothers masterwork Fargo, which when I absolutely had no room left to store them in my fetid studio apartment, I humbly returned to the Craigslist free section, specifically to a guy named Jerry, who vowed to make them into a throne. “I don’t care what anyone else says,” he told me at the time. “I’ve dreamed of sitting on a throne made out of masked taped copies of Fargo since I was young.”"

Money quote: "Carroll had more reason to celebrate, not just because he was returning to good health, but because those 12 days were full of some pretty upsetting visions."

Money quote: "Eventually, once we’d all been quarantined in our homes for at least two weeks, we started making distanced contact. We went on a hike together and didn’t share snacks. We had a backyard hangout around a fire pit, with each couple seated 6 feet from the next. It was then that we started talking about taking things to the next level."

Il pensiero no. Il metodo neanche. Che filosofia devastata per gente devastata.

Money quote: "For some reason, it still wasn’t enough for me. As soon as I opened my laptop, the temptation to procrastinate by either distracting myself or by being “fake productive” was just too high. Fake productivity is doing work-related activities that don’t bring much value to your job, such as checking analytics, planning your day for hours, watching educational YouTube content, looking at your competitors’ content on social media. Not that these kinds of tasks aren’t useful, but they’re not always necessary. If you’re a writer, checking out your stats on Medium every 10 minutes doesn’t bring as much value as sitting down and write."

Money quote: "Our consumer-sentiment surveys, conducted in April, show declines in purchase intent of 70 to 80 percent in offline and 30 to 40 percent in online in Europe and North America, even in countries that haven’t been under full lockdown. E-commerce is clearly not offsetting the sales declines in stores. Nevertheless, it has been a lifeline for fashion brands as stores have been shuttered—and it will continue to be critical during and after the recovery period. In China, the return of offline traffic has been gradual, with 74 percent of Chinese consumers saying they avoided shopping malls in the two weeks after stores reopened.1 This suggests that some percentage of offline sales could permanently migrate to e-commerce."

Money quote: "Chairs are important historical artefacts. They can represent the fashion and ethos of a particular moment in time or stand for an epochal idea. They are portraits of their users and reflect the production techniques with which they were created. You can recognise and understand an era – its social structures, its materials, techniques and fashions – by its chairs. I would go as far as to say that no other everyday object is so multi-faceted."
