Money quote: "You may be thinking, “You idiots, why would you make a game based on a sitcom that last aired over 20 years ago and potentially incur the wrath of lawyers like Reddit user Dingdongs313 warned you about?” But yes, OK, actual lawyers also warned us to not touch it. (Although some of you may also suggest it’s worth us taking the risk of huge financial debt as long as you get to play the game.)"

Money quote: "“We saw a paradigm shift taking place before our eyes,” the satirist says. (He asked not to be named because he fears retaliation for his political work.) As Portuguese analysts and media personalities put social distancing into practice and began sifting through the day’s events from the comfort of their home offices, “the previously sophisticated sets, where interviewers and interviewees competed for the audience’s attention with catchy chyrons and elaborated graphics, were replaced with the erudite backdrop of plain old bookshelves.” The evening news had joined the work-from-home movement, and just like that, the home offices of famous people went temporarily on public view."

Money quote: "Planets aren’t rare. Life is surprisingly durable. The more we’ve learned about the Universe, the more the search for extraterrestrial life has shifted from science fiction to serious scientific undertaking. So it’s worth considering how humanity would react if we learned, through some distant but unmistakable signal, that lifeforms elsewhere in the Universe were communicating with us. In this interview, Seth Shostak, senior astronomer at the Center for SETI Research in California, discusses how first contact is more likely to be perspective-shifting than Earth-shattering."

Money quote: "Click on an image to bring up a full quality downloadable version, right click and select "Save image as...", then set it as your background image in your video conferencing application."

Un libro tutto da leggere. A sapere quale comprate.

Money quote: "Percival Everett has always been a rule-breaking author, but his new novel, “Telephone,” takes it to a new level. “There are three different versions of this novel, they’re all published identically, and you can’t know which one you’re getting,” he said. “It’s going to piss a lot of people off, I’m afraid.”"

La potenza del reverse engineering

Money quote: "Picroma Plasma is a vector image editor written by Wolfram von Funck under the company Picroma. Some videos of its usage are available on Picroma's YouTube channel.

Picroma/Wollay is also the author the game Cube World, and as a result, the game's GUI is constructed using Plasma graphics. I became interested in these Plasma graphics files in 2016, as I was beginning to get into reverse engineering and programming, and I had just finished building a converter for another, much simpler, undocumented image file format. Until this point, no one else had managed to make any useful modifications to Cube World's image files."
