During the night of April 25, 2009, 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel from New York left a hotel in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she had been staying with friends during spring break.

Drexel walked to a nearby hotel and sent a text message to her boyfriend, stating that she was on her way back to her motel. Sadly, this marked the final time she was seen alive.

Police investigated Drexel's disappearance but no developments were made public until 2016, when it was announced that a prison inmate had told them that she had been abducted and killed.

The man accused by the informant denied knowledge of any alleged crime. Based on that information, the FBI considered the case a homicide.

In May 2022, police arrested Raymond Moody for the crime, he pleaded guilty to all charges in October.

Drexel's remains were recovered a week later in a wooded area in Georgetown, about 33 mi (53 km) from where she originally went missing.

In the 1800s, Scottish surgeon Robert Liston became infamous for a surgery that led to an astonishing 300% mortality rate.

He amputated a patient's leg in under 2.5 minutes, operating so swiftly that he inadvertently amputated his assistant's fingers and slashed a spectator's coattails.

The spectator died from sheer terror, and both the patient and the assistant later succumbed to gangrene, marking the only recorded operation with a 300% mortality rate.

On a separate occasion, while performing another leg amputation, Liston accidentally removed a patient's testicles along with the leg.

On February 16, 2009, 911 dispatchers in Stamford, Connecticut received a call so shocking it took them several minutes to even understand what was happening.

Sandra Herold frantically screamed into the phone that her friend Charla Nash was being viciously attacked and eaten alive by her pet chimpanzee Travis.

Herold begged the dispatcher to send police immediately and said they needed to bring guns to shoot the mad chimp.

Throughout the entire horrifying call, dispatchers could hear Travis' enraged screams in the background as the attack continued.

Finally, emergency services arrived at Herold's home and found Charla Nash completely covered in blood on the ground, her face all but ripped off and her fingers strewn about the ground around her.

Nash required hours of surgery after the attack, and after her jaw was reattached she later flew to Ohio for an experimental facial transplant.

After the cops shot Travis to death, a toxicology report determined the chimpanzee had been given Xanax on the day of the attack. Sandra had reported this to police, but it's thought the drug may have fuelled his aggression.

At her wedding in April 1989, Linda Kolkena begged her partner Dan Broderick to wear a bulletproof vest because she was terrified that his jealous ex-wife would attack him. Seven months later, that's exactly what happened.

Kolkena and Broderick had begun dating while he was still married to a woman named Betty. For seven years, they snuck around until Broderick divorced his wife in 1985 and moved in with Kolkena.

A devastated Betty Broderick immediately began seeking revenge. She left them constant, angry voicemails, broke into their house and spray-painted their walls, and even drove her car right into the side of their house.

Finally, on November 5, 1989, Betty broke into the couple's bedroom while they were sleeping and shot them to death.
