On January 24th, 2006, Jennifer Kesse failed to report to her job in Central Florida. After further investigation, it seemed as if the 24-year-old just vanished.

Kesse was seen for the last time leaving work at approximately 6:00 pm on January 23, 2006. She spoke by phone with her father while driving home at around 6:15 pm, and then with her boyfriend at around 10:00 pm.

When Kesse failed to arrive at work the next morning, her employer contacted her parents, who set out on the two-hour drive from their home to hers. Kesse's parents noticed that her car was missing but saw nothing out of the ordinary in her home.

A wet towel and clothes laid out, among other things, suggested that she had showered, dressed, and prepared for work that morning.

With no sign of forced entry or a struggle, investigators theorized that on the morning of January 24 Kesse left her apartment for work and locked her front door, only to be abducted at some point while walking toward or getting into her car.

A few days after she vanished her car was found parked at another apartment complex about a mile from her own.

Security footage recorded a person parking Kesse's car and walking away; the person could not be identified due to poor camera quality.

Detectives interpreted the valuables left inside the car to imply that robbery was not a motive in the case. A search dog tracked a scent that led from her parked car back to her apartment complex, prompting detectives to believe that the suspect might have returned to her apartment's parking lot after abandoning the car.

Investigators also deduced that the car had been wiped down because there was a lack of DNA.

Her ex-boyfriend, who wished to get back together with her, was interrogated, but it was concluded that he had nothing to do with her abduction. Her current boyfriend was also questioned but his alibi checked out, eliminating him as a suspect.

Kesse's coworkers were also questioned as well as construction workers who catcalled her on many occasions, but nothing of substance was ever extracted from any of these individuals.

Jennifer Kesse’s case remains unsolved to this day and what happened to her is still a complete mystery.

In Medieval times, people accused of crimes could opt for a “trial by ordeal" where they stuck their hands in boiling water. If innocent, God would stop them from burning. The priests who administered this would secretly cool the water beforehand if they thought the defendant was innocent.

Alabama may become the first state to execute a prisoner by making him breathe pure nitrogen, a death penalty method that is authorized by three states but has never been used.

The office of Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall asked the state Supreme Court in a court filing on August 25 to set an execution date for 58-year-old death row inmate Kenneth Eugene Smith. The filing revealed Alabama intends to put him to death by nitrogen hypoxia.

Smith was one of two men convicted in the 1988 murder-for-hire killing of a preacher’s wife.

In May 1997, school boy Jamie Lavis was abducted and murdered by bus driver, Darren Vickers. Vickers then moved in with the Lavis family, claiming that he wanted to help them find Jamie because he was haunted by the fact he might’ve been the last person to see him alive.

The Lavis family was so blinded by his false determination and desire to bring their son back home alive that they allowed him to continue to live with them.

Jamie’s remains weren’t found until two years after his disappearance. During that time, Vickers would make very public appeals on television as he urged the public to help find Jamie and took part in searches he knew were going nowhere.

He was sentenced to 25 years in prison in 1997. He was denied parole in February 2023.
