Recapitalisation is a term used in the banking industry that refers to the process of raising capital to strengthen a bank's financial position. This is usually done to aid the economic plan of a nation.
The Central bank of Nigeria announced a while ago that all banks should recapitalise and have a period of 2 years for this to happen.
Tier 1 licensed banks - N500 Billion
Tier 2 licensed banks - N200 Billion
Various banks have begun their individual journeys of recapitalising, thus the issue of public offerings and rights issue.
A rights issue is when a company sells shares to its existing shareholders.
As an investor, it’s a grate opportunity to even strengthen your portfolio by owning more shares of these ever well performing banks. Remember to do your due diligence.

Fidelity Bank Public Offering
Fidelity Bank announced their public offering about a month ago, in line with their bid to meet up with the recapitalisation order of the CBN.
The public offer is 10 billion ordinary shares of 50 kobo each are offered to the general investing public at N9.75 per share.
The Rights issue is for 3.2 billion ordinary shares of 50 kobo each are offered in the ratio of 1 new ordinary share for every 10 ordinary shares held as of January 5, 2024, at N9.25 per share.
